The Auditor's office is the financial hub of County government. In the early 1970s, the Iowa State Legislature added the duties of Commissioner of Elections to the office of the Auditor. Today, the Auditor's office handles duties required by the Iowa Code, as well as responsibilities that have been created or assumed from other offices.

In Hardin County, the Auditor's office is responsible for:

  • Accounts Payable and Payroll
  • Budgeting and Taxation
  • Clerk to the Board of Supervisors
  • Drainage Clerk
  • Elections and Voter Registration
  • Financial Reporting
  • HR, employee benefits and property insurance
  • Passports
