  1. Youth Ice Fishing Photo Contest

    February 9, 2021 - March 1, 2021 @ Calkins Nature Center

    Kids Fishing Photo Contest is going on until mid-February so get your children outdoors and on the ice for some great fishing. Photo submissions can be sent our nature center email address, calkins@hardincountyia.gov Things to note: The fish must be caught between January 16 and February 20 of 2021 Only kids 15 years or younger can participate. There is no fee to send in photos. When you send in pictures, make sure your child AND the fish are in the photo. Add a time and date in the email so we know when the picture was taken.

    Bring your lunch to the park, take a seat, and learn about some unique wildlife with Calkins’ Nature Area staff members. The first weekend we will be discussing the unique characteristics of otters, the habitats they call home, and why they are an important species for our aquatic ecosystems.

    Bring your lunch to the park, take a seat, and learn about some unique wildlife with Calkins’ Nature Area staff members. This program will be all about foxes and coyotes. Foxes and coyotes are most active throughout the spring because it is their breeding season. Learn about the behavior of our wild canines, some of the key features that make foxes and coyotes different, and how we utilize predator hunting and trapping to control the booming populations of these sly predators.
