Iowa DNR Tree Distribution Program

  • The Iowa DNR, through a partnership with Alliant Energy and the USDA Forest Service, is excited to offer private residents the opportunity to buy landscape-sized trees at an extreme discount! Alliant Energy customers can participate and purchase up to two trees per planting address at $25 per tree. 
  • Order forms can be found at the Iowa DNR website on the right-side of the page under "Event Locations". 
  • Available Tree Species: Shagbark Hickory, Hackberry, Ginkgo, Tulip Tree, London Plane Tree, Shingle Oak, Bur Oak, American Linden/Basswood, Pagoda Dogwood, American Hornbeam, White Pine, & Serviceberry    
  • Trees will be available for pick up on Thursday, April 27, 2023, from 4:30pm-6:30pm at Calkins Nature Area (18335 135th St. Iowa Falls).

Bessman-Kemp Park Hosts 

Hardin County Conservation is accepting applications for a park host at the Bessman-Kemp Park Campground located west of Alden for the 2023 campground season (April-September).

Duties include cleaning bathrooms, fire rings, and cabins, registering campers, managing cabin reservations, and providing a relaxing/safe environment for our guests. Applicant must complete and pass a background check and sex trafficking training, have a valid driver's license, and willingness to live on-site and work weekends, holidays, and nights. The park host will be compensated $600 for the season and provided a seasonal camping spot at the campground at no cost and paid $600 for the 2023 campground season. 
Please have applications submitted to Hardin County Conservation at 15537 S Ave. Ackley, Iowa or conservationhq@hardincountyia.gov by Friday, January 27, 2023 to be considered for the position.
